Contemplative Practice Group

Learn more about this group

WHY? Until we learn to slow down, we are not freely choosing. Instead, we are being driven by our personality patterns, which ultimately are being driven by our nervous system...and our nervous system is programmed by a lifetime of experience that we have overidentified with. When it comes to slowing down, the support of a group is helpful!

WHEN? The 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month; 10:00-11:30 AM. Come when you can; no commitment required.

WHAT? Between 2 periods of shared silence, we read and reflect on classic and contemporary texts written about the contemplative life. On January 13 we will begin reading Thomas Kelly's book, A Testament of Devotion.

WHO? This is a diverse group; all are welcome!

WHERE? This group is currently meeting on Zoom. Click HERE for Meeting ID & password.

COST? Donations are accepted on behalf of Contemplative Outreach and the Foundation of HOPE.

Silent Retreats

"If you don't come apart for a while, you will come apart after a while."  ~Dallas Willard

We live in a noisy world that is in constant motion. Without being aware that we are doing it, we begin to rely on sound to fill a void within us and to distract us from pain. To be in right relationship with ourselves and others we must interrupt these patterns. To be in communion with all that has life, we must slow down and enter into the silence. Silent retreat opportunities are available throughout the year:
  • Seasonally I host a small group of individuals who are seeking an experience of Silence in community.
  • Personal silent retreats with or without spiritual direction.
  • Customized: You invite the group and reserve a retreat center. I will work with you to determine the group's needs, to suggest a structure and offer resources. I will then be on-site to facilitate and provide spiritual direction.

"Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you." ~Anne Lamott
